	The Ten Commandments The Ten Commandments (1956) was Cecil B. De Mille's most spectacular epic and last film. It was the highest-earning live-action film of the 1950s. Although a blockbuster, the film reverts to melodramatic style, with great actors adopting static attitudes, postures and gestures.

	Ben-Hur Eleven Oscars, including Best Picture, went to this classic version of the Lew Wallace story of Palestine at the time of Christ. Charlton Heston and Stephen Boyd are friends torn asunder by their beliefs and driven by vengeance that culminates in the breathtaking chariot race scene. With Hugh Griffith, Martha Scott; William Wyler directs. 211 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English 5.1; Subtitles: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese; audio commentary by Heston; "making of" documentary; screen tests; theatrical trailer; still gallery; scene access.

	Jesus of Nazareth The story begins with the arrangements of the wedding between Joseph and Mary, and chronicles the nativity, the encounter with John the Baptist (a ferocious Michael York) and everything up to the crucifixion and resurrection. This film is beautifully shot on actual locations, with haunting music by Maurice Jarre and an all-star cast, including Anne Bancroft, Laurence Olivier, Ian Holm, Earnest Borgnine, Peter Ustinov, James Mason, Anthony Quinn, Rod Steiger and Christopher Plummer. Zeffirelli has created a thorough, but never dull or dogmatic, retelling of the story, and the result is a uniquely transcendental film that holds the power to inspire no matter what the viewer’s beliefs or background.
